Former Giants cornerback Will Allen, now with the Dolphins, who suffered torn knee ligaments last October and underwent reconstructive surgery in early November, has been experiencing pain in the knee and has been sent to see a specialist.

Allen, 32, has been sitting out practices in recent days because of the knee.

Allen is signed through next season and has $10.7 remaining on the deal, including a base salary of $5.2 million this season.

Allen is expected to be the Dolphins' nickel corner this season, but if he can't play, the team will look at rookie fifth-round corner Nolan Carroll, or else newly signed corner Kevin Hobbs, who played last season with Detroit.
