Connolly is medalist in LI qualifier for Met Amateur

Gerard Connolly of the Nassau Players Club shot 4-under-par 68 and was the medalist at Middle Bay Country Club Tuesday in a Long Island qualifier for the 108th Met Amateur Championship. Others who qualified included 2010 Met Senior Amateur champion Steve Rose of Fresh Meadow, DePaul University golfer Michael Furci of Sayville and 14-year-old Matt Lowe of Farmingdale.

Xander McDonald-Smith of Rockaway Park shot 6-under-par 65 at Long Island National in Riverhead Tuesday to lead the Lessing's American Junior Golf Association Classic. The AJGA is a national tour for junior players. The final round is today.
