Costelli, at 73, shoots a 61 at Seawane
Shooting your age is one of the rare feats in golf. Shooting the age of someone young enough to be your niece or nephew is almost unfathomable, which is what it made it so rewarding last week for Joe Costello, 73, as he shot 61 with 11 birdies during a charity outing at Seawane Club.
The president of the Long Island Senior Golf Association and a North Hills member, Costello has been retired from computer sales for 20 years. He has played a great deal since then, having not played before he was 40. "I kind of took to it," he said. "I've always been a good putter, I've had a great feel." He added that he has shot his age a few times this year, "but nothing like this."
