Courses dealing with Irene aftermath

First hole at Bergen Point on Aug. 30, 2011.
Officials at Bethpage State Park hope to have the golf courses reopened Friday, at least on a limited basis, after a massive cleanup of hundreds of downed trees. The pro shop has remained open all week.
Other courses were without power or phone service. Golf courses, like all of Long Island, were affected in varied ways and to different degrees by Tropical Storm Irene.
At Bergen Point in West Babylon, the first hole was under a foot of water Sunday, but the course was open for play Tuesday (see photos at exploreli.com/recreation/golf). Fallen trees at Cherry Valley Club in Garden City forced postponement of the annual big caddies tournament, the Keith Cerrato Memorial, Monday. Organizers are trying to reschedule.
Many Long Island clubs are holding Patriot Golf Day this weekend, raising funds for military families. Check with your course.
