Dustin Johnson reaches lead, falls back

Before the U.S. Open began, many pegged Dustin Johnson as a contender for his first major title. Johnson is one of the longest hitters on tour and has won the ATT Pro-Am over the Pebble Beach layout.

Johnson struggled early when he double-bogeyed the par-5 14th hole, but since then, he's made three birdies to tie for the lead at -2. The birdie putt that put him at the top came at No. 6, which is his 15th hole of the day. Unfortunately, he foillowed thatg with a bogey at the shortest hole on the course, the 109-yard, par-3 seventh.

Meanwhile, Shaun Micheel dropped out of the lead group with a bogey at No. 17, and Paul Casey bogeyed No. 16 to drop to the -1 group. Brendon De Jonge and amateur Hudson Swafford also are hanging tough at -2 in the lead.
