FedEx points leader Brent Snedeker shares lead at Pebble Beach

Brandt Snedeker goes into the weekend at Pebble Beach, Calif., with another chance to win, this time without golf's biggest stars in his way.

Snedeker played bogey-free at tough Spyglass Hill Friday for a 4-under-par 68, giving him a share of the lead at 8 under with Ted Potter Jr. in the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Hunter Mahan and Fredrik Jacobson are among four players one shot behind. With one more round before everyone has played all three courses, the leader board was a big traffic jam.

Snedeker has been runner-up the last two weeks -- four shots behind Tiger Woods in San Diego, four shots behind Phil Mickelson in Phoenix. Woods is not playing this week, and Mickelson stumbled down the stretch at Spyglass Hill and shot 71. He's six shots off the lead.

Snedeker has played so well this year that he is leading the FedEx Cup standings without a win. "Keep running into guys who are or who are going to be in the Hall of Fame," Snedeker said at the start of the week.

His goal for the last two days? "Not do anything stupid," he said. "Unfortunately, I don't do it very often."

Potter won last year in his rookie season at the Greenbrier Classic to claim a peculiar footnote in history -- the only player to win a PGA Tour event in which Woods and Mickelson missed the cut.

Langer, Pernice tied

Bernhard Langer is a Hall of Famer who has won the Champions Tour money title four of the last five years. Tom Pernice Jr. is a journeyman who at 53 tried to reach the PGA Tour through Q-school last year. After the first round of play in the Allianz Championship in Boca Raton, Fla., they are a shot in front, tied at 6-under 66.

Fisher Jr., Sterne on top

Trevor Fisher Jr. shot 9-under 62 and Richard Sterne had a 65 to share the lead at 128 after the second round of the European Tour's Joburg Open in Johannesburg. -- AP
