Hauppauge's Hwang qualifies for U.S. Amateur
Brian Hwang of Hauppauge, a former Suffolk County High School champion and a junior at UConn, qualified Tuesday for the U.S. Amateur. He shot 2 under par for 36 holes at Manhattan Woods in West Nyack, placing third in a field of 79. The U.S. Amateur will be Aug. 23-29 at Chambers Bay in Washington state.
David Jankowski (Hamlet Wind Watch GC) won the inaugural Michael Hebron Amateur Championship at Bethpage Black Wednesday, parring the first playoff hole to defeat Michael Midgette of Bethpage.
Evan Beirne beat defending champion Cameron Wilson, 7 and 6, Sunday to win the Met Amateur at Quaker Ridge in Scarsdale . . . Joe Saladino of Huntington Country Club won the Mittelmark Invitational at Fenway Golf Club in Scarsdale Monday at 1 under par.
