Jim Liu has solid first round in U.S. Amateur
Jim Liu, 15, of Smithtown shot 2-over-paron the Home Course, a solid first round in the U.S. Amateur Championship. It was a solid opening for Liu in the event being held at Chambers Bay in Washington state. At the moment, he is tied for 71st and thus very much in contention to be in the top 64 who qualify for match play after two rounds of stroke play.
Liu is in this tournament because he won the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship when he was still 14. He was the youngest to have won that title, eclipsing Tiger Woods' record. Woods studied under John Anselmo, Liu's current coach.
