Kelly Shon of Port Washington won  her first-round match against an accomplished competitor Wednesday at the U.S. Women's Amateur. Having tied for 23rd in the two-round stroke play qualifying procedure, she scored a 4 and 3 win over Meghan Stasi.

         The former Meghan Bolger is a New Jersey native who won five successive Philadelphia women's amateur titles and two U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur championships. She is the former coach at the University of Mississippi.

         Shon will play Nicole Vandermade of Canada in the second round Thursday morning at Charlotte Country Club.
