On the premise that it is never too early to start competing at golf, and that golf can never have too many young players, both Nassau and Suffolk Counties are holding tournaments for young people.

A Father’s Day-themed Father-Child Tournament will be held Saturday at Nassau’s Cantiague Park in Hicksville. Each entry will be a two- to four-member team composed of a father and his child or children. Tee times will be available between 6:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The price will be the regular course fee -- $15 with a leisure pass, $39 without the pass -- and $10 for a post-tournament barbecue. Prizes will be awarded for both gross and adjusted handicap scores. Call (516) 571-7061.

Suffolk will begin its Junior Golf Tour in July. Boys and girls between 9 and 17 will play a round at each of the four county-owned courses: Indian Island, West Sayville, Timber Point and Bergen Point. The $140 fee ($125 for ages 9-11) includes a golf clinic and awards dinner. Call (631) 854-4947.
