Newsday’s Mark Herrmann was recognized by The Associated Press Sports Editors with Top 10 honors in the Game Story category for his account of Phil Mickelson’s victory at the Masters in April.

Herrmann’s winning story touched on the crowning achievement of Mickelson’s golf comeback in perspective with his wife Amy’s battle with cancer. "It was a terrific story," Newsday sports editor Hank Winnicki said. "We’re very proud of Mark. He truly deserves this honor."

Herrmann has been a Newsday reporter since 1983 and has been a member of several Top 10 award-winning teams.
