Ode to Meadow Brook `best U.S. course since Augusta'
While I was looking for something else, I stumbled across a piece in Sports Illustrated, Oct. 31, 1955 by Herbert Warren Wind, the legendary golf writer.
He wrote of American courses that had just made their debut and was particularly enthralled with the one that had just opened in Jericho, L.I.: the Meadow Brook Club.
Mr. Wind explained that the original Meadow Brook had been plowed under, at the insistence of Robert Moses (making way for the current Meadowbrook Parkway) and replaced by the club that's still there in Jericho and which hosted the late great Northville/Lightpath Long Island Classic.
