Oyster Bay course to host walk, run for charity
Long after the season for most outings has passed, the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course is hosting two of them - neither of which is related to golf.
The Eighth Annual Cancer Care Lung Cancer Walk will be held on the course on Nov. 7. Islanders icon Bob Nystrom will be the honorary chairman for the event that last year drew more than 1,000 walkers and raised more than $230,000. Information can be obtained at the website, communitycare.org/lungcancerwalkNY.
A week later, on Nov. 14, The Great Prostate Challenge Run will be held along for the second year along Oyster Bay's fairways. The 5-kilometer race drew more than 300 runners last year. Greg Cergol, Long Island reporter for WNBC-TV, will be the grand marshal. Visit greatprostatecancerchallenge.com.
Competition
The teams from Island Hills and Tam O'Shanter were co-champions of the Long Island Pro-Lady tournament Tuesday at Huntington Crescent Club. In the Pinehurst format, Island Hills head pro Paul Glut and women's club champion Deborah Dibiase made an eagle 2 on the fourth, on their way to a 2-under par 68. Tam O'Shanter assistant Paul Griffin said that his partner, his wife Jessica, a four-handicap, made the big putts for their 68.
