Park wins LI event, gains national semis
Yong Park of Manhasset was on a waiting list for two years to get onto Darrell Kestner's lesson schedule. It was worth the wait to work with the Deepdale Golf Club pro. Park last week won her third consecutive title in the Long Island Executive Women's Golf Association and advanced to the national semifinals.
Liu advances in juniors
James Liu of Smithtown, the defending champion, won his opening match in the USGA Junior Amateur at Bremerton, Wash. Matt Lowe of Farmingdale lost his match.
Annie Park of Levittown and Caroline Araskog of Locust Valley won their opening matches of the USGA Girls Junior at San Francisco.
Sean Byrne of Rockville Centre and August Kim of Searingtown won the Met Junior PGA Championship boys and girls titles, respectively, at Baiting Hollow Tuesday. Byrne then caddied for Garden City Golf Club pro Bob Rittberger at the New York State Open Wednesday.
