Richardson tournament at Seawane continues
One of the venerable streaks in Long Island golf will continue this week as top amateurs gather at the Seawane Club in Hewlett for the William D. Richardson Memorial Invitational. The event, named for the late New York Times golf writer, has been held without interruption since 1948.
Among the winners have been Mal Galletta, Dick Siderowf, Jerry Courville, George Burns III, John Baldwin, George Zahringer, Ed Gibstein and Ken Mattiace (brother of Masters runner-up Len Mattiace).
Recent champions who have turned pro include Jim Hazen, Abbie Valentine and Casey Calmi.
