What: 45th Ryder Cup
When: Friday-Sunday
Where: Bethpage State Park Black Course, Farmingdale, N.Y.
What: A team of 12 European golfers going head-to-head against 12 players from the U.S. in a three-day, match-play competition.
Format: Four matches of fourballs (better ball) and foursomes (alternate shot) on Friday and Saturday, 12 singles matches on Sunday. In four-balls, each golfer plays his own ball, and the lowest individual score wins the hole. If the two lowest scores are the same, the hole is tied, or "halved". In foursomes, golfers on each team play one ball with alternate shots. Lowest score wins the hole. If all scores are the same, the hole is halved. In the singles matches, the lowest score wins the hole. If the scores are the same, the hole is halved.
Scoring: One point awarded for each match won. As defending champion Europe needs 14 points to retain the cup. The U.S. needs 14½ to win.
TV: Friday — 7 a.m.-6 p.m., USA Network; Saturday — 7 a.m.-6 p.m., NBC; Sunday — Noon-6 p.m. NBC. Daily matches also on Peacock, RyderCup.com and on the Ryder Cup app.

Did you know: There is no prize money. Each U.S. player gets $500,000, with $300,000 going to charity. Team Europe players are not compensated.
