Saladino wins Nassau Invitational, clinches player of year
Joe Saladino if Huntington won the Nassau Invitational Sunday, finishing the two-round event at 3-under par 137 at Nassau Country Club. He was two strokes better than runnerup Dara Lernihan of Ireland in the amateur tournament that dates back to 1897 and has been won by Walter Travis and Tommy Armour.
Saladino entered the tournament in s somewhat close race for MGA Player of the Year honors and wrapped up that award, following a strong week at the U.S. Mid-Amateur at Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton.
