EDISON, N.J. -- A special sale is on for tickets to next year's Barclays at Bethpage Black, the PGA Tour announced. Through Sept. 5, a one-day ticket, good from Tuesday through Sunday, is priced at $45. A weekly package is $99. The sale is available at www.thebarclaysgolf.com. After Sept. 5, tickets return to the normal prices, $75 daily and $150 weekly.
A contingent from Bethpage was at Plainfield Country Club Thursday, gathering information for next year. Dave Catalano, the longtime park director, said he was heading back to prepare for the hurricane. He said the park lost more than 2,000 trees during Hurricane Gloria.
Frazar fires a 64
Harrison Frazar had seven birdies and no bogeys in his round of 64. He credited it to good putting on the front nine and ball-striking on the back. "I played maybe about [worthy of] a 40 on the front and 30 on the back. The scores showed differently," said the tour veteran whose nines were 31 and 33.
Matt Kuchar was seven under par through 16 holes and Williams McGirt was seven under through 11 holes.
Singh pain free
Vijay Singh made eight birdies and a double bogey for a 6-under par 65, and he was smiling afterward. He is pleased at having been to Germany for the same back treatment that helped Fred Couples win the Senior Players in Westchester this past weekend. Singh said, "I can feel my back now, instead of the pain."
Bradley, Phil under par
PGA champion Keegan Bradley and Phil Mickelson, in the same group, finished 14 holes and they were both two under par . . . Former Long Island high school and college star Arjun Atwal played 11 holes and is two under.
