Keegan Bradley is proving that when there is talk about a St. John's player going pro, it doesn't necessarily mean the NBA draft. Bradley, a recent star for the Red Storm golf team, last week tied for ninth at the Valero Texas Open. It was his second top-10 finish in his first few months on the PGA Tour.

Bradley, 24, is a Vermont native and nephew of LPGA Hall of Famer Pat Bradley. He played for the Storm from 2004 to 2008 alongside such current top local players as Casey Calmi. Bradley finished 14th on the Nationwide Tour last season, which earned him his PGA Tour card this year. He had almost instant success, tying for seventh in the Bob Hope Classic, his second event of the season.

He is playing this week in The Heritage at Hilton Head. "18 at Harbor Town. Really awesome," he said in a Twitter feed, adding that he is replacing his 3-iron with an extra wedge.

The recent success came on the week Met Golfer did a big story on Red Storm golf alumni, who include Long Island head pros Ed Kelly (Cherry Valley), Mark Mielke (Mill River) and Mal Galletta III (Glen Cove); teaching pro P.J. Cowan (Eisenhower Park) and MGA Player of the Year Joe Saladino of Huntington.

Competition

Mike Meehan and Cindy Pietrusik of Pine Hollow were co-champions with Sean Quinlivan and Joe Dolezal of Piping Rock in the Long Island Pro Assistants Championship Tuesday at Harbor Links. Each team shot a best-ball 7-under par 65. It was the debut as a head pro for Meehan.
