Steve Tarulli of Rockville Centre shot par 71, Chris Clarke of East Hampton shot 72 and Brad Rock Jr. of Plainview won a playoff at 73 last week as Long Islanders won three of the five qualifying spots for the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.

All three qualified at Aspetuck Valley Country Club in Weston, Conn., and advanced to the national 25-and-over tournament, which will be held Sept. 17-21 in Richmond, Texas. The winner of the U.S. Mid-Am, which was held last year at Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton, traditionally is invited to play in the Masters.

Two shots to remember

James Reister recently made a double eagle on the 467-yard, par-5 sixth hole at Swan Lake Golf Club in Manorville. Reister sank his 9-iron after setting himself up with a long drive.
