Upstarts join Paul Casey in lead
Amateur Morgan Hoffman, a 20-year-old from Englewood, N.J., picked up a rare birdie at the 495-yard 10th hole to move to 2-under par and tie for the lead with England's Paul Casey. Hoffman, who was on the U.S. Walker Cup team, just wrapped up his sophomore year at Oklahoma State University. England's Matthew Richardson, a late starter today, has birdied two of his first three holes, starting on the ack nine to also gain a share.
In the feature group, Ernie Els reached the par-5 sixth hole in two and two-putted for birdie to get to 1-under. Tiger Woods drove into the rough, laid up and recorded his sixth straight par.
