Four Long Islanders advance out of local qualifying for U.S. Open golf championship
Four Long Island players advanced out of U.S. Open local qualifying at the Cold Spring Country Club on Monday.
Lewis Wright of Greenvale, a junior on the men's golf team at Long Island University and Vincent Venard of Port Washington each shot three-under-par 68 to finish tied for second.
Dean Muratore, a St. Anthony's High School golfer from Dix Hills and a Michigan commit, finished tied for fourth at 2-under-par 69 along with John Mackle of Bellport.
They advance to sectional qualifying at Canoe Brook Country Club in New Jersey on June 3. The Open is the following week at Pinehurst in North Carolina.
