Young LI talent to compete at Piping Rock

Here is an interesting pairing: Some of Long Island's best young players and one of its most venerable, respected courses. That will be the match at the Met Amateur Aug. 4-7 at Piping Rock Club in Locust Valley (est. 1912).

Among those in the field will be local teens and college-age players Kyle Brey, Matt Lowe, Michael Furci and Xander McDonald-Smith. There will be a 36-hole stroke-play qualifier Thursday, Aug. 4, followed by match play the following three days. It is a rare chance for golf enthusiasts to see the C.B. Macdonald gem. Like all other Metropolitan Golf Association events, it is open to the public and admission is free.
