Zahringer's comeback ends on extra hole
George Zahringer III of Manhattan and Deepdale Golf Club had the sort of comeback you almost never see in high level match play; 4 down after nine holes against John Engler of Augusta, Ga. in the first round of match play, Zahringer took the match to extra holes. He lost on the first hole at Atlantic Golf Club, a par 5.
Still, it was quite a week at the U.S Mid-Amateur for Zahringer, who has a revived spirit to his competitive golf game. He said his goal was to make match play, enduring two brutally tough rounds at the Bridge and Atlantic. He did that. Now it's on to the U.S. Senior Amateur this weekend.
