Seth Noreman smacked a solo home run to centerfield in the bottom of the 10th to lift sixth-seeded Plainview JFK to a 7-6 win over No. 11 East Meadow in a Nassau Class AA first-round playoff baseball game Saturday.

Chris Mancino's two-run homer with two outs and two strikes in the top of the seventh tied the score at 6 for East Meadow (12-8). Gil Doremus and Matthew Moskowitz hit back-to-back homers in the fourth to give Plainview a 3-2 lead. Shane Lovisi allowed three hits and struck out three in three scoreless innings of relief for the win. Plainview JFK will play at No. 3 Oceanside in Game 1 of a best-of-three series at a time to be determined Monday.

Baldwin 2, Bellmore JFK 1: Joe LoBello's single drove in Travis Hylton in the bottom of the seventh to win it for No. 8 Baldwin (9-7) in a Class AA first-round game. Louis Aponte singled in Nick LoBello to tie it at 1 in the fourth for Baldwin. LoBello allowed four hits and struck out five in a complete game for the Bruins, who will face No. 2 MacArthur Monday in a best-of-three quarterfinal.

Syosset 7, Massapequa 2: Tommy Morris allowed two earned runs, scattered eight hits and struck out five in a complete game for No. 10 Syosset (10-7) in a Class AA first-round game. The Braves turned double plays in the first, fourth and sixth. John Tsiolis hit a two-run homer in the first to give Syosset a 3-0 lead. Centerfielder James Cohan went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs and added an outfield assist on a play at the plate in the third after No. 7 Massapequa (13-7) had already scored in the inning. Syosset will face No. 1 Calhoun in a best-of-three series beginning Mondaty.

Farmingdale 3, Mepham 1: Alex Brosnan struck out six and walked three in a three-hitter for No. 5 Farmingdale (11-5) in a Class AA first-round playoff game. Vinny Schultz hit an RBI double in the fourth inning to give Farmingdale a lead. Farmingdale will play at No. 4 Carey Monday in a best-of-three quarterfinal.

Seaford 13, Valley Stream South 3: Mike Lasher went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, three runs and three stolen bases, Mike Kalista went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Steven Szobesky allowed one earned run, five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in a five-inning win for No. 14 Seaford (12-8) in a Class A first-round game. Seaford plays at No. 2 Clarke Monday.Mineola 11, Jericho 1: Mike Serqueira's two-run single in the bottom of the first gave No. 9 Mineola (11-9) a 3-0 lead in a Class A first-round game. Jimmy Bulva scattered six hits and struck out six with no walks. Ryan Jenkins hit a two-run homer and Steve O'Connor went 2-for-2. Mineola will play in the second round Monday. Mineola plays No. 8 Wantagh Monday.

GIRLS BADMINTON

VSS' Pavels champ. Valley Stream South's Melanie Pavels, the 15th seed, beat No. 5 Taylor Kenney of MacArthur, 21-13, 21-17, to win the Nassau girls badminton individual championship.

In the doubles final, No. 1 April Pun and Maya Means of Jericho defeated No. 2 Annie Wu and Eun-Joo Wong (Great Neck South), 24-22, 19-21, 21-14.

SOFTBALL

Kellenberg 2, St. Dominic 0: Allie Pisciotta singled in Allie Mancini from third with two outs in the top of the fifth to open the scoring for Kellenberg (17-0) in CHSAA. Susan Pardo struck out eight and allowed two hits with no walks over six innings for the Firebirds, who completed their first undefeated season since the program's inception in 1988, coach Ken Conrade said.
