1. BAY SHORE SOFTBALL

The defending Class AA state champs had the week off, but they show no signs of slowing down. Taylor McGowan is easily making the adjustment to 43 feet and catcher Courtney Syrett is proving to be one of the best young hitters in the county, powering three home runs in the last two games.

2. WEST ISLIP BOYS LACROSSE

The Lions’ winning streak is 30 after victories last week over Smithtown East, Half Hollow Hills West and Ridgewood (N.J.). The two-time defending state champions visit No. 3 Ward Melville in a Division I showdown of undefeated Class A teams on Wednesday.

3. GARDEN CITY GIRLS LACROSSE

The Trojans have been idle since April 15 and begin a tough stretch as the regular season winds down. Garden City has upcoming games against North Shore, Manhasset and Northport.

4. CHAMINADE BOYS LACROSSE

The Flyers had only one game last week, but it was an offensive explosion. Sean Mahon scored three goals and won 10 of 12 faceoffs to spark a 16-9 victory over Fordham Prep.

5. WARD MELVILLE BOYS LACROSSE

The Patriots beat Bay Shore, 12-5, with Tyler Hegarty scoring a career-high five goals. That sets up the much-anticipated matchup against rival West Islip on Wednesday night at 6:30.

6. LINDENHURST BASEBALL

The defending state Class AA champs beat previously unbeaten Sachem North twice last week, 3-2 and 6-2. A three-game series with upstart Northport looms.

7. COLD SPRING HARBOR BOYS TENNIS

The top team on Long Island has its first major test of the season against St. Anthony’s on Friday.

8. NORTHPORT GIRLS LACROSSE

The Tigers were dealt their first loss of the season, falling 18-13 in a non-league game against Our Lady of Good Counsel. The Maryland powerhouse entered the game ranked No. 1 by ESPN Rise.

9. EAST MEADOW SOFTBALL

It was a quiet week for the defending county champions, who have won six of their last seven games. Jamie Laird, whose four home runs are tied for third most on Long Island, continues to lead the offense while Amanda Carlin is off to a 6-2 start.

10. CHAMINADE BOYS GOLF

The Flyers took a 6-1 win over St. John the Baptist as John Reali and Mike Hanley each shot a 1-over 37 on the front nine at Wheatley Hills Golf Club.
