1. ST. ANTHONY’S GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Friars took a huge step toward winning the CHSAA regular-season championship with a 49-43 road win over St. John the Baptist. It was the second time they beat the defending champions this season. They are 8-0 in the league, while every other team has at least three losses. Kerrin Maurer had 15 points, five assists, five rebounds and three steals. The Friars have won 13 consecutive games.

2. ST. MARY’S BOYS BASKETBALL

Chavaughn Lewis is tearing through the CHSAA. He led the Gaels (3-0 in league play) with 20 points in a 65-54 win at Kellenberg and then scored 33 in an 81-57 victory over visiting St. Anthony’s.

3. LONGWOOD WRESTLING

The Lions have a dual-eet winning streak of 56 after crushing Floyd and Commack in League I meets. Longwood also won the Gene Brigham Memorial Tournament at Minisink Valley (Section IX) with 167 points. Despite missing several starters, Longwood crowned eight individual champions: Anthony D’Onofrio (96 pounds), Corey Rasheed (112), Casey Brice (125), Ray Nicosia (130), Ed Jennings (140), Nicky Hall (145), Ricky Renck (152) and Dylan Seybolt (171).

4. EAST ISLIP GIRLS BOWLING

The Redmen are one win from completing an undefeated regular season. Last week they had convincing victories against Smithtown and West Babylon, improving to 17-0 with a Long Island-best 1,002.8 average. On Wednesday Tara Ernst and Lena Sorrentino teamed to win the “A” division of the girls Suffolk doubles tournament.

5. ST. ANTHONY’S WRESTLING

The Friars went 4-0 at the NYSCHSAA Duals defeating Monsignor Farrell, 56-18, in the finals at Chaminade yesterday. They also defeated Iona Prep, Fordham Prep, and St. Joseph Sea despite using several backups. The Friars only loss this season has been to the state's top ranked system, Shenendehowa High. 

6. EAST ISLIP BOYS BOWLING

Strong performances by Eddy Tuskan and Bobby Martin in wins over Deer Park and North Babylon helped push East Islip’s (13-0) unbeaten streak to 46 matches. Tuskan capped the week with a victory in the Suffolk singles tournament, securing himself a spot on the state team in Syracuse in March.

7. HALF HOLLOW HILLS BOYS SWIMMING

Half Hollow Hills defeated Lindenhurst, 91-85, on Wednesday with Nick Kontos taking first in the 200-yard IM (2:24.63) and Michael DiMaria winning the 100 breaststroke (1:17.68) to stay undefeated. Hills is aiming for its fifth perfect season after going undefeated in dual meets, league championships and county finals the past four.

8. WARD MELVILLE GIRLS FENCING

Maria Mucci and Gina Krupp were undefeated in epee for Ward Melville (9-0) as the Patriots extended their win streak to 138.

9. WARD MELVILLE BOYS FENCING

The Patriots’ Luis Puno and Jake Goldberg went undefeated in epee to lead Ward Melville (9-0) in wins over Newfield and Commack.

10. PLAINVIEW JFK GIRLS GYMNASTICS

Plainview hasn’t lost a regular-season meet in more than two years and is in prime form this season with an 8-0 start, despite losing some of its best talent. The squad is led by Victoria Vitale, Mellisa Kropf and Jordan Sack. Vitale recently notched a 34.7 in the all-around to push aside longtime rival Oceanside.

Braerley broke the school record in the 100-yard backstroke (59.27) in a loss to Hauppauge on Wednesday.

NICK MAURIELLO, HAUPPAUGE, WRESTLING

Mauriello pinned state runner-up Joe Barbato of Wantagh in 2:18 as Hauppauge beat Wantagh, 32-32 on criteria at the Tom Ryan Duals at Wantagh.

KYLE WADE, ISLIP, WRESTLING

Wade beat Nassau’s No. 1 ranked wrestler at 152 pounds, Dan Spurgeon of Plainedge, 9-2, in the finals of the Kris McDonald Islip Cup Tournament.

JAMES FROST, EAST ISLIP, WRESTLING

Despite his team winning only one dual meet at the EI ABC Duals, Frost won all four of his bouts at 215 pounds, three by pins.

AMANDA JOHANSEN, NORTH SHORE, GIRLS BASKETBALL

Johansen had 17 points, 23 rebounds, eight steals and five assists in a 74-56 win over Seaford. She had 17 points, 17 rebounds, eight steals, eight blocks and seven assists in an 85-59 win over Great Neck North.

KASEY STOLBA, HARBORFIELDS, GIRLS BASKETBALL

The junior had a career-high 27 points along with 10 rebounds and eight steals in an 82-57 win over Miller Place.

MONIQUE WALKER, FLOYD, GIRLS BASKETBALL

The senior had a career-high 29 points and added 14 rebounds in a 45-31 win over Ward Melville and 24 points and 10 rebounds in a 39-26 win over Longwood.

JEFF JUAREZ, EAST MEADOW BOYS BOWLING

The freshman rolled a 300 in Game 2 of a 784 series to help East Meadow clinch the Conference IV championship.

EVAN KANTOR, SACHEM NORTH, BOYS BOWLING

The junior bowled his second perfect game of the season in Game 3 of a 688 series in a win over Whitman.

CHRISSY MALINOWSKI, SACHEM EAST, GIRLS BOWLING

Malinowski bowled a 708 series in leading Sachem East to victory Thursday. Her 279 in Game 2 was the second highest among girls this year.

DANTE LANGHORNE, GREENPORT, BOYS BASKETBALL

Langhorne averaged 27.7 points, 15.3 rebounds and 9.0 assists in victories over Ross School, Stony Brook and Mattituck.
