Big 10: Glenn grapplers retain grip on top spot

1. GLENN WRESTLING (remain at 1) The Knights continued to impress with a stirring 33-17 dual meet over Rocky Point. It was their 47th straight dual-meet win, the fifth-longest in Suffolk history. Matt Gannon (135 pounds) and Nick Terdick (152) each earned pins, and Mike Bosco (160) knocked off previously undefeated Anthony Volpe, 2-1, in double overtime. On Saturday, they won the Yonkers (Sec. I) tournament with 11 champions, including Nick Meinsen, who earned a technical fall in the 130-pound final.
2. HALF HOLLOW HILLS WEST BOYS BASKETBALL (remain at 2) The Colts continue to romp, knocking off highly regarded Sacred Heart of Connecticut, 75-56, in the Hoop Hall Classic in Springfield, Mass., on Saturday. Tobias Harris scored 35 points and Tavon Sledge added 27 to lead the way. They passed a big test Monday night, defeating Bishop Loughlin in overtime to stay unbeaten.
3. EAST ISLIP BOYS BOWLING (not ranked last week) The Redmen are undefeated in league and conference at 11-0. They are averaging over 1,100, which is a state record. They also rolled a 1,301 high game and a 3,639 three-game series. At the singles tournament, John Knieriemen rolled 300 in his final game.
4. HALF HOLLOW HILLS BOYS SWIMMING (remain at 4) Jesse Lohrer is the top swimmer in the 100-yard backstroke (57.41) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.10) as undefeated Half Hollow Hills continues to dominate.
5. LONGWOOD BOYS BASKETBALL (up from 7) The Lions’ unbeaten season finally came to an end with an 82-68 loss to City College-Baltimore in the BBall Academy Tournament in Baltimore on Saturday. But Longwood scored a season-high 110 points in a win over Sachem East last Tuesday.
6. HAUPPAUGE WRESTLING (up from 10) After cruising to a pair of Suffolk League V wins over Harborfields (72-0) and Eastport-South Manor (67-12), the Eagles won five duals at the Farmingdale Duals, including a 51-7 victory over MacArthur in which Anthony Bonaventura earned an 11-3 major decision over Tyler Dunne.
7. KELLENBERG GIRLS BASKETBALL (down from 5) The Firebirds (6-3) opened the week with a big win over St. Anthony’s, 55-49. They used a 21-6 fourth quarter to rally from a nine-point deficit after three quarters. But the Firebirds also lost to St. Mary’s, 65-59, and Sachem East, 61-44. St. Mary’s hit 14 three-pointers.
8. ST. ANTHONY’S GIRLS BASKETBALL (remain at 8) The Friars (10-1) defeated St. John the Baptist, 46-40, as Kerrin Maurer scored 12 points and Micky Impellizeri had 10 points, 15 rebounds, six assists and five steals.
9. NORTH BABYLON GIRLS BASKETBALL (remain at 9) The Bulldogs (4-1) beat Hills East as senior guard Bria Hartley scored 27 points. Hartley scored 35 points and surpassed 1,500 for her career in a 69-47 win over Moore Catholic (Staten Island). The UConn-bound Hartley has 1,512 career points.
10. EAST ISLIP GIRLS BOWLING (down from 3) A loss to Islip knocked them way down in the Big 10. They had not lost a regular-season match since 2001 — an incredible streak of 135 wins.

Athletes of the Week
Mike Bosco, Glenn: The 152-pound senior escaped with 14 seconds left in the second 30-second period of the second overtime to defeat previously undefeated Anthony Volpe, 2-1. Bosco remained undefeated.
Shannon Flynn, St. Mary’s: Senior point guard scored 21 points, including six three-pointers, to become the all-time leading scorer at St. Mary’s with 1,370 points in a 65-59 win over Kellenberg.
Tobias Harris, Half Hollow Hills West: Scored 35 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the Colts’ impressive 75-56 win over Sacred Heart (Conn.) in the Hoop Hall Classic on Saturday. Harris also went 28 and 12 in a win over West Babylon on Thursday.
Brett Cohen, South Side: Scored 26 points with 14 rebounds as South Side dealt Elmont its first defeat of the season, 65-50, on Friday. Cohen also had 23 points in a 61-51 win over Floral Park.
Cameron Cullen, East Islip: Scored all 11 points in overtime as EI defeated Newfield in a battle for first place Saturday in League III. He also grabbed 12 rebounds. Cullen added 20 points in an easy win over Smithtown East on Tuesday.
Colby Lubman, Commack: Lubman won the 55-meter dash in 7.21 seconds and the 300-meter dash in 40.09 seconds at the Stanner Games at the Armory.
