BIG 10: Longwood wrestles to top spot
1. LONGWOOD WRESTLING
The Lions won the League I tournament title with 10 place-winners, including eight finalists. Longwood won its second straight League I tournament title and wrapped up its third straight unbeaten dual meet season. The Lions are on 58 dual meet winning streak.
2. ST. MARY’S BOYS BASKETBALL
The Gaels’ perfect season continued with three more victories. They defeated CHSAA opponents St. John the Baptist (89-56) and St. Dominic (88-61) before knocking off non-league opponent All Hallows, 76-57. Forward Charles McCann had triple-doubles in all three games.
3. EAST ISLIP BOYS BOWLING
East Islip has an undefeated season (14-0), a league title, a division title, an individual tournament title, and now a Suffolk title. Next month the entire East Islip bowling family, boys and girls, will travel to Syracuse in hopes of capping the season with a state crown.
4. EAST ISLIP GIRLS BOWLING
Earned the Suffolk team championship after two disappointing finishes in the county tournament in 2009 and 2010. The Redmen are also favored to win state gold.
5. ST. ANTHONY’S WRESTLING
St. Anthony’s clinched the CHSAA regular season title and then blew out the competition at the league tournament crowning 10 league champions in 15 weight classes. Pure dominance!
6. HALF HOLLOW HILLS BOYS SWIMMING
After completing its fifth-straight undefeated dual-meet season, Hills won its fifth consecutive League I championship on Feb. 11, with Matt DeBlasio winning the 100-yard freestyle (48.04) and 50-freestyle (21.88). Ryan Savit placed first in diving with a 289.50. The Thundercolts now prepare to try to win their fifth straight county title on Feb. 19.
7. ST. ANTHONY’ S GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Friars clinched the CHSAA regular season title with a 55-21 win over second place Holy Trinity. Kerrin Maurer had 13 points and five assists and Shannon White scored 12 points. The Friars also beat Our Lady of Mercy, 53-20.
8. WARD MELVILLE GIRLS FENCING
Ward Melville won the Suffolk title for the 10th straight season. And it was the 10th straight undefeated season. The Patriots will play Great Neck South in the Long Island Championship tomorrow.
9. WARD MELVILLE BOYS FENCING
Ward Melville won the Suffolk title for the fifth straight undefeated season and will meet Oyster Bay in the Long Island Championship tomorrow night.
10. LONG BEACH ICE HOCKEY
Top-ranked Long Beach defeated No. 9 East Islip, 6-0, in the quarterfinal round on Feb. 7 and then beat No. 5 Middle Country, 10-2, in the semis on Feb. 10. As the Marines head into Game 1 of the Suffolk finals No. 2 Connetquot/Sayville, they're on a 15-game win streak.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Kelsey McGayhey, Shelter Island, girls basketball: The junior had a career-high 37 points in a 65-46 win over Southold.
Kasey Stolba, Harborfields, girls basketball: She had 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 59-39 win over Kings Park and had 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 48-35 win over Eastport-South Manor.
Tamara Simpson, North Babylon, girls basketball: The freshman had 16 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals in a 76-32 win over Smithtown East. Jack Greenfield was named the Nassau County boys epee champion and won the deciding bout in the title game for Oyster Bay (13-1).
Isabelle Thenor-Louis, Great Neck South, girls fencing: She won the deciding bout for Great Neck South (15-1) at the Nassau team championships.
Lucas Woodhouse, Harborfields, boys basketball: The junior point guard continues to lead Long Island in assists and totaled 39 last week in three Tornadoes’ victories. He had 15 against Eastport-South Manor, 12 against Kings Park and 12 vs. Westbury.
Sam Mo, Great Neck South, boys swimming: The junior was named outstanding competitor at the Nassau finals after winning the 200 individual medley (1:53.10) and 100 butterfly (50.69) to help Great Neck South win its third straight county title.
Joe Fuller, Longwood, boys track: He won the 600-meter dash in 1:23.71 and ran the anchor leg on the winning 4x400 relay teams at the state qualifier.
Jessica Gelibert, Bay Shore, girls track: She won the 55-meter hurdles and was apart of the winning 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams at the state qualifier.
Serena Pergola, Bethpage, girls gymnastics: Pergola, an eighth-grader, helped her second-seeded Bethpage squad unseat a reigning champ (Oceanside) and an undefeated team (Plainview) to win a county title and score a school record 167.325. Pergola notched a tournament-high 9.35 on beam, an 8.85 on floor, an 8.75 on bars and an 8.2 on vault.
Luis Christie, Holy Trinity, boys bowling: Rolled a 269 in Game 1 of a 695 series to win his second straight CHSAA individual tournament. Dhara Kadakia, Carle Place, girls bowling Bowled a 1,245 six-game series, including a 265, to win the Nassau individual championship on Saturday.
