Big 10: Who can stop Sachem North?

1. SACHEM NORTH FOOTBALL

The Flaming Arrows rewrote the school record book yet again. Junior Dalton Crossan returned an interception a school-record 100 yards for a touchdown in a 42-14 win over Brentwood. Sachem North totaled 303 yards of offense on 25 plays. They host Northport in a Suffolk Division I semifinal on Saturday at 1 p.m.

2. ST. ANTHONY'S FOOTBALL

The Friars jumped out to a 42-0 first-half lead and cruised past St. Joseph Sea, 42-8. They host undefeated Fordham Prep (9-0) in a CHSFL AAA semifinal Friday at 7 p.m. St. Anthony's (9-0) has won eight of the past nine CHSFL championships.

3. HALF HOLLOW HILLS BOYS VOLLEYBALL

The Suffolk League I champions were led by Cody Lau and his 16 digs in a sweep of a tough Smithtown West team in the Division I quarterfinals.

4. GARDEN CITY FIELD HOCKEY

They returned just three starters, suffered a spate of injuries and played in more tight games than usual - and it hasn't mattered. Garden City (16-0-1) captured its 16th straight county title, beating North Shore, 7-1, in the Class B final. They'll take on the winner of the Shoreham-Wading River/Sayville game for the LI title on Sunday at C.W. Post.

5. WARD MELVILLE GIRLS SWIMMING

After another undefeated season, the Patriots are geared up for the Suffolk finals, where they'll try for their 19th consecutive title. Jessica Fabrizio has the top county time in the 500 freestyle (5:14.69) and is the only member of the squad to hold the top spot in any of the 12 competitive events.

6. MASSAPEQUA GIRLS SOCCER

One of the few top seeds in girls soccer still hanging around, Massapequa beat No. 8 Bellmore JFK, 1-0, last Tuesday in the quarterfinals and No. 5 Farmingdale, 2-0, on Friday to advance to the Nassau finals. Massapequa, which has allowed two goals all season, will face Oceanside at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Denton Avenue Field. They are ranked fifth nationally in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America weekly poll.

7. WARD MELVILLE FIELD HOCKEY

The top-seeded Patriots beat Sachem North, 3-0, on Friday in the Class A quarterfinals. Ward Melville (15-1) has dominated the county and, with star midfielder Callie Vitalo recovered from early season injuries, their offense is even more dangerous.

8. CHAMINADE BOYS SOCCER

The Flyers won the CHSAA championship with a 1-0 win over St. Anthony's. Tom Roulis scored on a free kick in the final minute and Ricky Berotti made eight saves. The Flyers will play in the CHSAA state semifinals this week.

9. GARDEN CITY GIRLS SWIMMING

Here's the definition of domination: Garden City has won 12 consecutive Nassau County titles after taking Saturday's meet with 614 points.

10. ST. ANTHONY'S GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

The Friars were undefeated in CHSAA play (15-0) and have not dropped a set all season en route to a berth in today's CHSAA final against Holy Trinity.
