Chaminade's John McCormack won the state CHSAA individual bowling championship Saturday in Buffalo.

The senior defeated Kevin Bienko of St. Joseph's (Buffalo), 228-215, in the title match. Chaminade's John Lindgren finished third.

McCormack had shot a 925 four-game series to earn the second seed entering the head-to-head round, and Bienko was seeded first after a 933.

"This was a great way to go out," said McCormack, who helped lead the Flyers to a league title last month. "Exciting; I'd never experienced anything like this before."

Holy Trinity's Luis Christie, whose 226 average was tops in the CHSAA, took fifth. Christie won the tournament as a sophomore and placed second last year. Chris Hall of St. John the Baptist was sixth and teammate Kyle Durfee won the high game award for a 289 in Game 4.
