Braverman puts LWA in NYSAIS semifinal
Tristan Braverman hit a three-pointer as time expired in overtime last night to give No. 5 Lawrence Woodmere Academy a 64-62 victory over No. 4 Horace Mann in a NYSAIS Tournament quarterfinal.
Coming out of a timeout with seven seconds left in overtime and LWA trailing 62-61, Trent Parish took the inbound pass and dribbled up to the foul line, where he kicked it out to Braverman for the winning shot. Parish had 23 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. LWA (21-3) will play No. 1 Rye Country Day School in a semifinal at 5 p.m. Friday at the higher seed.GIRLS BASKETBALLTamara Simpson had 30 points, eight rebounds, eight steals and four blocks as No. 2 Portledge (26-1) beat No. 7 Staten Island Academy, 57-52, in a NYSAIS Tournament quarterfinal. Ceci Mulry had nine blocks, six steals and six rebounds to lead Portledge. Bethany Claps had 28 points and 10 rebounds for Staten Island Academy.
