Brown drives length of court to win for Huntington
Tre Brown broke the Sayville press as he drove the length of the court and hit the winning shot with 1.4 seconds left in the first overtime in a 57-56 win for Huntington (2-3) in a League V boys basketball game Saturday. Pat O'Connor put Sayville up by a point with a basket before Brown's drive. O'Connor (11 points) hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 52 as time expired in regulation. John Patron scored a game-high 20 points for Huntington, but fouled out with three minutes left in regulation. Senior Jeremy Rhodes had a season-high 18 points to go with seven rebounds. Neil Fishenden led Sayville (1-4) with 18.Miller Place 53, East Hampton 49: Taylor Sowah had 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists for Miller Place (5-1) in League VI. Nick Parrella added 11 points, and James Hatton had seven points and 14 rebounds. Tyler Brennemen led East Hampton (3-3) with a game-high 17 points.
Massapequa 39, MacArthur 36: Patrick Meehan hit a three-pointer with 30 seconds left to give Massapequa a 37-36 lead. Kevin Flecker and Patrick Meehan (18 points, 12 rebounds) each hit a free throw in the final seconds to give Massapequa (4-1 ) its final margin in Conference AA-II. Kevin Monahan hit a three with 40 seconds left to give MacArthur (0-4) a 36-34 lead.
Syosset 66, Mepham 41: Spencer Hazan scored 15 points and six assists, and Brett Schwartz had 12 points for Syosset (4-1) in Conference AA-III. Syosset's Erik Schwarz had four points and 10 rebounds. Doug Marshall led Mepham (0-4) with 10 points.
Bayside (Queens) 73, Center Moriches 67: Sophomore Miles Bell scored a career-high 20 points and Jon Ward-Adams 18 in a losing effort for Center Moriches (5-3) in a non-league game decided in double overtime. Center Moriches' Tyus Gholsen (11 points) hit a three-pointer to tie it at the end of the first overtime. Bayside forced the extra frames with a 21-9 fourth quarter. Bayside was led by William Dobie (29 points).
Long Island Lutheran 105, Thomas Edison (Queens) 95: Achraf Yacoubou scored nine of Long Island Lutheran's 13 points in the third overtime. Yacoubou finished with 37 points and 10 rebounds, Terry Brutus had 20 points and 16 rebounds, and Hart Gliedman 17 points and seven rebounds for Lutheran (9-1).
Lawrence Woodmere Academy 64, Blessed Sacrament 63: Guilherme Brodt (nine points) grabbed a rebound off a missed three-pointer, scored on the putback, drew a foul and completed the three-point play with two seconds remaining to give Lawrence Woodmere Academy (11-1) its final margin. Edwin Sainvil scored a team-high 18 points for LWA and Holden Collick had 13 points and 11 rebounds,.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Calhoun 56, East Meadow 47: Meghan O'Sullivan scored 22 points to go with eight rebounds, and Erin Green had 11 points and eight rebounds for Calhoun (2-2) in Conference AA-II. Brittany Anghel led East Meadow (1-3) with 13 points.
Roosevelt 54, Seaford 42: Simone Thomas scored 21 points, and Samantha Cordbitt had 14 points and nine rebounds for Roosevelt (4-0) in Conference ABC-II. Nailah Cherry chipped in with 10 points and six assists. Erica Fischetti led Seaford (2-3) with 11 points.
Kings Park 52, Hauppauge 38: Jamie Romano had seven points, eight rebounds, seven assists, seven steals and a career-high 11 blocks for Kings Park (6-0) in League V. Marion Kawecki added 14 points and seven rebounds. Julie Williams led Hauppauge (2-4) with a game-high 15 points.Mount Sinai 46, Shoreham-Wading River 45: Emily Bongiorno made a high-post lob pass to Sarah Shine, who caught it in stride and hit the winning layup with six seconds left for Mount Sinai (4-2), which forced a turnover in the final seconds to steal the win. Michelle Gostic hit two free throws with 12 seconds left to give SWR (4-2) a 45-44 lead. Shine scored 17 points to go with eight rebounds, and Bongiorno added 11 points. Samantha Villafranca led SWR with 21 points.
Bayport-Blue Point 39, Westhampton 34: Kelly Gluchowski scored a team-high 11 points to go with eight rebounds for Bayport-Blue Point (2-4) in League VI. Kristen Polan scored 11 of her game-high 19 points in the third quarter for Westhampton (1-5).
