Curry scores Harborfields record 34 in win over Islip
Matt Curry did the scoring and Matt McLeod did the stealing and distributing for Harborfields last night.
Curry, a senior, scored a school-record 34 points and shot 13-for-15 for the Tornadoes in an 87-63 win at Islip in League V boys basketball.
Curry, who was 4 of 5 from three-point range and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, eclipsed McDonald's All-American Bret Bearup's record of 32 points set in 1980. Curry scored 16 of his points during Harborfields' 30-point third quarter and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Said coach Chris Agostino: "He shot the lights out."
McLeod, a junior, added 17 points, 11 assists and a career-high 10 steals for his second triple-double of the season.
Harborfields (5-0) had 26 assists and 18 steals and surpassed its season high in points by 14.
"It's really not our style ," Agostino said. "We like to wear you down with our pressure. It's our defense that is creating a lot of easy opportunities for us."
Nick Fessenden chipped in with 24 points and nine rebounds for Harborfields. Terrence Dzus led Islip (1-3) with 19 points.
