It didn’t take Josh Fenner long to score his 1,000th varsity point. Not in number of years or minutes into Thursday’s game.

Fenner, a junior, hit a 3-pointer two minutes into host Glenn’s 72-52 victory over Mattituck in Suffolk VI boys basketball Thursday, to put Fenner at 1,002 varsity points. He finished the game with 1,028 varsity points, after scoring 31 points with eight rebounds and eight assists in Thursday’s win.

He is the first junior in school history to reach 1,000 points, said coach Charly Rogener, who added Fenner reached the milestone in 50 games over three seasons. Fenner is averaging 20.6 points per game on varsity, including 24.7 points per game this season as Glenn is off to an 8-2 start, including 1-1 in Suffolk VI.

"He has every aspect of the game going for him,” Rogener said. “He can hit three -- he hit five in this game -- he has a great pull-up jumper and he's excellent in transition."

Fenner has three games of at least 30 points this season, including scoring 40 points in a 90-67 loss to Center Moriches December 21. Rogener said Fenner can score in a variety of different ways, but his one-on-one abilities makes him a dynamic scorer.

"His ability to break down a defender and get to the hoop (is great) because that opens everything else up for him,” Rogener said. “He can break people down and then he can hit the 3-pointer. He's the fastest guy on the court, he gets the transition game going and he's a complete player for us."
