Tobias Harris scored 27 points and eclipsed the 2,000-point plateau in leading top-seeded Half Hollow Hills West over Copiague, 80-63, last night in a Suffolk Class AA quarterfinal.

Harris, a senior, reached the milestone on a layup with 2:00 left in the third quarter, and became the 11th Long Islander to accomplish the feat.

"It means a lot to me," said Harris, who has 2,008 points and added 17 rebounds. "It's a great step in my career and it'll be nice to look back on, but for now I'm just worried about us winning states."

Colts coach Bill Mitaritonna said it's his drive that has gotten Harris to this point.

"He downplays everything because he's only concerned about the team," said the coach, whose team improved to 20-0 and will face Bay Shore in the semifinals Sunday at Farmingdale State. "He works when nobody's around. Before the season he was waking up at 5:30 a.m. to run, he does his lifting and speed drills after games and he'll come back to school at night and take 1,000 shots. He's a special player and that's why he's a McDonald's All-American."
