Long Island’s best boys basketball players provided a number of unforgettable moments this winter, with even more to come as playoffs round the corner. Here are the highest scoring single-game performances by public school and CHSAA players, as of Thursday, Feb. 12.

51 points: Sean O’Neil, Valley Stream Central

O’Neil scored 51 points against Cold Spring Harbor on Jan. 31, with his 50th serving as his 1,000th varsity point.

47 points: Ryan Leary, Carle Place 

Leary earns multiple spots on this list (see below), beginning with 47 points against MacArthur on Feb. 8, which set a single-game program record. He’s scored at least 30 points in seven games this season.

44 points: Troy Meyers, Greenport

Hitting six three-pointers and 16 free throws, Meyers scored 44 points against Ross on Dec. 15. He’s scored at least 25 points in nine games.

42 points: Alex Franklin, Southampton, Brian Vales, Mount Sinai, Josh Gamarra, Oceanside

Franklin dominated to the tune of 42 points and 27 rebounds against Mattituck on Jan. 6.

With 42 points and 13 rebounds, Vales marched the Mustangs to a win over Wyandanch on Jan. 7.

Against one of Nassau’s best teams in Port Washington, Gamarra scored 42 points to lead Oceanside to a four-point win over the Vikings on Jan. 29.

41 points: Evan Weslek, Shelter Island

The star junior scored 41 points against Ross on Jan. 9, ending his winter season with 10 games with at least 20 points.

40 Points: Kyle Edmundson, Kings Park; Ben Pnini, Roslyn; Kyle Dillon, Chaminade; Ryan Leary, Carle Place

Kings Park rolls into the playoffs behind Edmundson, who scored 40 points on Jan. 3 against Glenn. He has four games with at least 30 points.

Pnini’s 40-point game came in a triple-overtime thriller as the Bulldogs bested St. Dominic on Dec. 11. His three-pointer forced the first overtime period and his assist to Jordy Gross forced the second overtime period.

Dillon put everyone on notice early in the season with a 40-point game against Long Island Lutheran’s National team on Dec. 6. He’s helped Chaminade win eight of its last nine games.

Leary added a 40-point game against Malverne on Dec. 8.
