Maxwell's 40 advance East Islip
Senior Evan Maxwell scored a career-high 40 points, including two free throws late in the fourth to give No. 4 East Islip a 60-59 win Saturday over No. 13 Kings Park in a Suffolk Class AA first-round boys basketball game.
Maxwell also had 20 rebounds and hit 13 of 14 free throws and gave East Islip (15-4) a 55-53 lead with 47 seconds left. Kings Park's Chris Savino had 14 points.
East Islip hosts No. 5 Central Islip on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a quarterfinal.
Central Islip 64, North Babylon 46: Max Attah scored all eight of his points in the second quarter to break the game open for No. 5 Central Islip (18-1) in a Class AA first-round game.
Floyd 62, Eastport-South Manor 42: Anthony White had 20 of his 29 points in the second and third quarters and sophomore Al Levisauskas had career highs in rebounds (seven) and blocks (three) to lead No. 2 Floyd (17-2) in a Class AA first-rounder. Floyd hosts Longwood in a quarterfinal Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Longwood 58, Bellport 48: Senior Chris Millender had 21 points and a season-high 20 rebounds for No. 7 Longwood (15-4) in the first round of the Class AA playoffs. Dylan Overton had 17 points for No. 10 Bellport.
Brentwood 62, Bay Shore 41: Ira Burton had 14 points and 16 rebounds and Femi Olujobi had 13 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks to lead No. 6 Brentwood (16-3) in a Class AA first-rounder. Brentwood plays at No. 3 Deer Park in a quarterfinal Tuesday.
Deer Park 67, Riverhead 50: Kyle Bradford scored all 15 of his points in the second half and Keith Williams (15 points) made three three-pointers in the first quarter to lead No. 3 Deer Park (16-3) in a Class AA first-round matchup. Ryan Bitzer had 29 points for No. 19 Riverhead (9-11).
Half Hollow Hills West 56, Commack 50: Senior Denzel Williams had a career-high 20 points and went 4-for-4 from the line in the final minute to lead No. 1 Hills West (16-3) in the first round of the Class AA playoffs. Nick Arnold had 23 points and went 10-for-11 from the foul line for No. 16 Commack (12-8). Hills West hosts Lindenhurst in a quarterfinal Tuesday.
Lindenhurst 63, Smithtown East 53: Stew Warren had 25 points, 16 rebounds, four steals and four blocks to lead No. 8 Lindenhurst (15-4) in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA playoffs.
Shoreham-Wading River 51, East Hampton 40: John Kovach had 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead No. 4 Shoreham-Wading River (12-7) in a Suffolk Class A quarterfinal. Kevin Turano added 11 points, five steals and four assists, and Chris Mahoney had 18 rebounds in the win. The Wildcats will visit No. 1 Harborfields in a semifinal at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Mount Sinai 77, Rocky Point 58: Mike Guzzardi had 22 points and 14 rebounds and Alex Pintabona (14 points) hit three three-pointers in the first two minutes of the third to lead No. 3 Mount Sinai (14-4) in a Class A quarterfinal. Mount Sinai visits No. 2 Amityville in a semifinal Tuesday at 4 p.m.
