Pierre's layup wins it for Hempstead
Tidell Pierre caught a length-of-the-court inbounds pass from Tywan Watson and hit a layup as time expired to give Hempstead a 51-49 victory over Freeport on Friday in a Nassau Conference AA-I boys basketball game.
Pierre, a junior, had 21 points and a career-high 24 rebounds and John Blocker had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers (4-3).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
North Shore 90, Mineola 61: Amanda Johansen had 19 points and 16 rebounds to lead North Shore (7-0) in Conference A-IV. Freshman Samantha Capobianco had career highs of 11 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
Sachem North 33, Floyd 31: Erin McNulty (18 points) converted a three-point play with 55 seconds left to help lift Sachem North (2-5) in Suffolk League I.
Upper Room 52, Waldorf 49: Sydney Zambrotta had 48 points, including two free throws with 13 seconds left in the fourth quarter to seal it for Upper Room (3-4) in IPPSAL.wrestling
