Suffolk Slant: Top 10 Teams
The race for the No. 2 ranking, behind Half Hollow Hills West, tightens. I’m keeping Longwood there for now, even after two tough losses over the weekend at a tournament in Baltimore. The Lions still haven’t been derailed on Long Island. However, No. 3 St. John the Baptist continues to impress, winning their non-league games and staying on top of the CHSAA. I’ll be checking them out in a league game at pesky Chaminade on Tuesday. Floyd and Amityville are new to the Top 10 this week.
Zog's Top 10
1. Half Hollow Hills West (6-0): Impressive win over Sacred Heart (Conn.) in Hoop Hall Classic. Big test Monday night vs. city Catholic power Bishop Loughlin.
2. Longwood (9-2): Two losses in Maryland tournament, but no one on L.I. has been able to slow down Lions.
3. St. John the Baptist (13-1): Sunday’s 77-61 victory over Wyandanch continued Cougars’ impressive season and also raised funds for shelter in Wyandanch.
4. Harborfields (9-1): Rallied to beat Kings Park and rolled over Huntington to stay atop League V.
