Tavon Ginyard's 23 points lead St. John the Baptist over Chaminade
Tavon Ginyard scored 23 points, including the 1,000th of his career, for St. John the Baptist in a 66-55 win over Chaminade on Friday night.
Ginyard added six assists, Kyle Williams had 17 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks and Brian Sinclair 13 points for the Cougars (6-2), who overcame a 15-7 first-quarter deficit.
Bethpage 58, Lynbrook 42: Greg Gerber had 27 points and 12 rebounds for Bethpage (9-4) in Nassau Conference A-III. Brett Tarnell added nine points and Joe Tierney had four steals.
Friends Academy 66, East Rockaway 53: Tyrone Perkins had 24 points, including 14 in a 41-24 second half for Friends (10-0) in Nassau Conference BC. Jack Forlines scored nine of his 14 in a 23-point fourth quarter for the Quakers.
Wyandanch 75, Port Jefferson 50: Justin Sanabria had 18 points as Wyandanch (7-6 League VII) clinched a playoff berth.
Stony Brook 66, Shelter Island 46: Elijah Davis came off the bench to score 20 points and lead Stony Brook (15-1) in Suffolk League VIII. Brandon Odom had 18 points, Andrew Daniel had 13 points and 13 rebounds and Chase Audige added six steals in the win.
Smithtown Christian 68, Greenport 47: Caelan McCabe had 25 points, five rebounds and two blocks for Smithtown Christian (8-8 League VIII), which clinched its first playoff berth since 2001, coach Dan Skaritka said. Charles Bellini added 16 points, 10 assists and five steals and Corey Collins had seven points and five rebounds in the win.
GIRLS BASKETBALLMalverne 60, Wheatley 40: Alexis Lopez scored five of her 15 points during a 14-4 third quarter as Malverne (3-7 Conference BC) clinched a playoff berth. Lopez added five rebounds and three assists, Destiny Samuel had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the third-seeded Mules, who will play No. 2 Carle Place in a Class B semifinal on Saturday at LIU Post. Valley Stream Central 45, Plainview JFK 32: Naomi Bolasingh had 16 points, seven assists and eight rebounds for VSC in Conference AA-II. Brianna Hendrick added 14 points and 19 rebounds.
Floral Park 64, Bethpage 34: Lorraine Hickman scored 21 of her 25 in the first half, including 16 in a 26-11 first quarter for Floral Park (13-0) in Conference A-III. Kaela Hilaire added 15 points in the win.Kellenberg 72, St. Francis Prep 56: Kaitlyn Stackpole scored 25 points for Kellenberg (13-4) in non-league. Brenna Dennelly had 10 points and nine assists.
