Giancarlo Luna said he dreamed of scoring in a big game for Brentwood.
"Today was the day to score for my team," Luna said through an interpreter.
Luna scored two goals to lead No. 4 Brentwood past No. 9 East Islip, 2-0, in a Suffolk Class AA semifinal Tuesday.
Luna took a pass from Jonathan Interiano and deked past two defenders to put the Indians on the board in the 45th minute.
"Giancarlo's been a special kid, he has all the ability in the world," Brentwood coach Ron Eden said of the senior. "He's a little guy, slim, gets pushed off the ball a lot but he makes up for it with his ability to move the ball with his feet."
Luna sealed the victory for Brentwood when he took a pass from Frank Guzman and beat a defender before chipping the ball past East Islip's Evan Maxwell, who finished with five saves, with 2:53 remaining.
Herson Guzman made four saves in his fourth consecutive shutout and fifth overall for Brentwood.
The Indians advance to play No. 2 Commack in the Suffolk AA final at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dowling Sports Complex on the Brookhaven Campus.
The League I rivals split their two regular-season meetings; Commack won, 1-0, on Sept. 21 and Brentwood prevailed, 3-1, on Oct. 9.
Herson Guzman is confident about his team's chances in the finals.
"It feels great to be able to defend our title once again," Guzman said. "As long as we come to play as a team nobody can stop us."
Commack advances in 2 OTs. Michael Biondo scored from 15 yards on a pass from Jack Miller with seven minutes remaining in the second overtime to give No. 2 Commack a 2-1 victory over No. 3 Smithtown West in the other Suffolk Class AA semifinal. Adam Tamburello scored on an assist from Max Aronica and Jake Amereno had 15 saves for Commack. Matt Hettler scored and Brian Hickey made 24 saves for Smithtown West.
Fullam leads Sayville. Sean Fullam scored on a cross from Dakota Edwards in the 17th minute to give No. 1 Sayville the lead in its 2-0 victory over No. 5 Miller Place in a Class A semifinal. Fullam and Edwards connected again in the 32nd minute. Dan Scheck made nine saves in the shutout for Sayville. Sayville (16-1-1) advances to play No. 2 Glenn (17-1) in the Class A final at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Dowling Sports Complex.
Agbotse sparks Glenn. Dela Agbotse scored in the 11th minute on a bicycle kick off a corner from Matt Toich to give No. 2 Glenn the early lead in its 5-0 victory over No. 6 Islip in a Class A semifinal. Agbotse scored a second goal and had two assists and Toich scored two goals for the Knights. Kevin Flores made two saves in his 12th shutout of the season for Glenn.
