Wharry's OT goal gives East Islip upset of Brentwood
Billy Wharry scored off a midfield pass from Michael Simonetti 5:44 into overtime as East Islip upset Brentwood, 1-0, Monday in non-league boys soccer.
Brentwood entered the season ranked 23rd in the country and hadn't lost to East Islip since the 2002 playoffs.
"Brentwood has set the standard for us and other teams to try to reach, so it's a great experience to play well against such a terrific team," Redmen coach Ray Lang said. "Hopefully, this gives us confidence."
Frank Noviello made 16 saves for East Islip.
"He made one huge save after another," Lang said. "He's a tremendous presence in the box."
Smithtown West 1, Ward Melville 0: Chris Hettler scored with three seconds left in the second overtime.
Locust Valley 1, Mineola 0: Jose Rivas, Constantine Linardos and David Villalobos each scored on penalty kicks for Locust Valley in the Mustang Cup tournament semifinal at Mineola.
Billy Mullen made seven saves for the Falcons, who will face Lynbrook in the final Tuesday.
Plainview JFK 3, Freeport 2: Jesse Waxman scored the winner off a throw-in from Justin Ingardia in the 80th minute as Plainview JFK overcame a 2-0 deficit. Zachary Zeises tied it at 2 in the 58th minute for Plainview JFK. Dave Geyer made seven saves in the win.
GIRLS SOCCERNorthport 2, Ward Melville 1: Kristin Desmond scored the winner in the fourth minute of overtime for Northport in non-league. Sabrina Barton scored and Lindsay Demling made seven saves for Northport.
Sachem East 2, Eastport-South Manor 1: Jody Wellcome scored the winner with 2:30 left in the first half for Sachem East in non-league. Kayla Mieczkowski scored in the 22nd minute for Sachem East.
Hampton Bays 3, Southold-Greenport 2: Lexi Radziul scored her second goal 16 minutes into the second half to break a 2-2 tie. M.K. Hilton scored and Hannah Martinez and Emma Henry each had an assist for Hampton Bays.
St. Anthony's 4, Longwood 1: Mackenzie Kober scored two goals and Emma Kechejian had two assists to lead St. Anthony's. Phallon Tullis-Joyce made 14 saves for Longwood.
