FREEPORT RED DEVILS (10-1) vs.

FLOYD COLONIALS (9-2)

Noon, at Hofstra

This is a rematch of last season's LIC, in which the Red Devils won, 38-14, behind All-Long Island running back-turned quarterback Kevin Allen, who rushed for 309 yards and three touchdowns and threw for three more.

Freeport (41 ppg) is once again a power-running team out of its vaunted spread, with bruising tailback Dan Olivier and ever-improving quarterback Isaiah Barnes leading the way. Most of those runs are behind offensive tackle Terrell Brown. Barnes can hurt you with his passing, too, especially to big-play deep threat Jere Brown, who caught two TD passes and returned a punt for a score in Freeport's tense 36-33 victory over Farmingdale in the county final.

Floyd also played a stressful thriller to get here, outlasting previously unbeaten Sachem North, 41-34, in the county final, reversing a 40-6 regular-season loss. The Colonials made an adjustment in their blocking schemes to neutralize the Flaming Arrows' superb linebackers, and that allowed Stacey Bedell (242 yards) and Luke Miller (81 yards) to have big games. Bedell was spectacular, with TD runs of 22, 64, 1 and the game-winner of 49 yards. He knocked Jesse Scanna out of bounds near the Floyd 5 on the game's final play. James Walsh anchors the Floyd line.

It's the third straight LIC appearance and sixth overall for the Red Devils, who are 3-2. "Three county championships is great," Freeport coach Russ Cellan told his team after last week's victory. "But you know what's better? Two straight Long Island championships."

Floyd coach Paul Longo can attest to that. His team is 3-3 in the LIC, with consecutive victories in 2005-07.
