If you give Tomaso Ramos room to run, he will make you pay.

The running back had 21 carries for 165 yards and four touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass in Farmingdale’s 56-21 win over host Port Washington on Saturday in Nassau Conference I.

“With our linemen and fullback, I have the best ability to get downfield,” Ramos said. “They really set the tone on offense. They were a big help for me.”

Ramos had the hot hand right from the start. He opened the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown run on Farmingdale’s first drive.

Port Washington answered quickly with a 46-yard pass from John McCarthy to Anthony Iurio on third-and-12, which led to a 2-yard touchdown run by Luke Meyer to tie the score at 7 just before the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter it was the Ramos show. The senior scored from three yards out 10 seconds into the quarter, took a screen pass 24 yards to the end zone just over five minutes later, and added a 2-yard rushing score right before halftime to give Farmingdale a 28-7 lead.

“We had to keep going,” Ramos said. “We work hard every day, so we feel like we deserve to put as many points on the board as we can.”

The Dalers came out throwing in the second half. Anthony Licci completed a deep ball to Dillon Mehta for a 55-yard touchdown less than two minutes into the third.

After Port Washington went three-and-out on the ensuing drive, Iurio intercepted a pass and returned it 55 yards for a score for Port Washington (3-1).

Then the Dalers went back to feeding Ramos.

He started the following drive with consecutive runs of 29, 10, 14 and nine yards, setting up a 2-yard touchdown run by Sal Posillico to put Farmingdale ahead 42-14.

Posillico followed his touchdown with a toe-tap interception on the sideline.

“I dropped back, and read an out route,” Posillico said. “I just put my foot in the ground and cut him off and managed to stay in bounds.”

The interception set Farmingdale up in good field position and Ramos capitalized with his fifth touchdown from 15 yards out.

Iurio returned the ensuing kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown but Port Washington trailed by four scores.

Farmingdale is now 4-0 with a conference leading 187 points scored and only 21 points allowed.

Field position was a key for the Dalers, as most of their possessions started on Port Washington’s side of the field.

“Both lines functioned at a really high level, especially the defensive line” head coach Buddy Krumenacker said. “I thought we dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage today."
