Ferreira's 3 TDs lead Sayville over Amityville
Steven Ferreira passed to Rich Millwater on a third-and-10 with 25 seconds left for the game-winning 36-yard touchdown to lead No. 1 Sayville over No. 8 Amityville, 26-21, in the first round of the Suffolk Division III playoffs yesterday. Ferreira was 15-for-25 for 197 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He added 51 yards rushing. Sayville (8-1) got the ball back with 3:24 left in the game at their own 28-yard line after Amityville (4-5) went up 21-20 with a touchdown and two point conversion, and never ran the ball during the drive. Sayville converted a fourth-and-2 at midfield with a six-yard completion to Millwater, who caught four passes, two for touchdowns, and finished with 81 yards.
Justin Fronckwicz led the defense with 15 tackles and one sack, Joe DeLuca had nine tackles and Matt Ali and James Rupp each made seven.
Huntington 35, Harborfields 14: Calvin Bollar rushed for two touchdowns in the first half before Dan Plant connected with Tyree Brown for a 54-yard touchdown pass with 12 seconds remaining in the half to lead No. 3 Huntington (7-2) over No. 6 Harborfields (5-4) in the first round. Bollar finished with 20 carries for 122 yards and three touchdowns. Ryan Mulligan, who had four receptions for 118 yards, caught a 30-yard touchdown off a play-action pass with seven minutes left in the third to give Huntington a 28-6 lead. Early in the third quarter, Harborfields attempted a fake punt on 4th-and-9 from the Huntington 40 but Trevon Toney, who had eight tackles and an interception, made the tackle one yard shy of the first down.
Islip 34, Kings Park 13: Jeffrey Craig was 11-for-16 for 319 yards and three touchdowns and hit R.J. Going on the post for an 80-yard TD to tie the game at 7 with 3:06 left in the first and lead No. 2 Islip (8-1) over No. 7 Kings Park (3-6) in the first round. He gave Islip the lead for good on a 33-yard second-quarter TD pass to Terrance Foley. Joe Sabbatino had nine carries for 52 yards and two TDs, and an interception at linebacker. The defense was led by tackle Moe Abdulla and defensive end John Aubel. Islip will host Huntington, Friday at 6 p.m.
Westhampton 22, Deer Park 13: Dan Gomez kicked a 25-yard field goal with 3:36 remaining in the fourth quarter to give No. 5 Westhampton a three-point lead over No. 4 Deer Park in the first round. On the ensuing drive Westhampton's Connor Raynor recovered a fumble in Deer Park's end zone with 1:58 left to seal the victory for the Hurricanes (6-3). Niko Jones had seven carries for 78 yards and a TD, three receptions for 41 yards and one TD and added an interception and a sack on defense. Alex Marks had 10 carries for 84 yards. Vincent Vitale had 22 carries for 137 yards and one touchdown for Deer Park (6-3).
