Heller hits Gordon for Mempham winner
A.J. Heller threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Gordon in the fourth quarter for the go-ahead score in fifth-seeded Mepham's 14-7 win over top-seeded Carey (1-1). Heller finished with 134 passing yards and a score. Miguel Shaw led with 70 rushing yards and a touchdown for Mepham (2-0). Kevin Tauriello added 67 yards on the ground. Elias Lozada led the defense with 12 tackles and Shane Agostino had an interception and a fumble recovery to go along with six tackles. Joe Aliberti had seven tackles.
Calhoun 28, Carle Place/Wheatley 14: Julian Lee scored his third rushing touchdown with 9:14 left in the third quarter to give Calhoun (1-1) a 21-7 lead. Lee finished with 171 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns. Brandon Furia had an interception and fumble recovery, and Robert Rinck had 10 solo tackles and three sacks.
Elmont 45, Herricks 0: Kyle Johnson had four catches for 79 yards and three touchdowns (2 receiving, 1 rushing) to lead Elmont (2-0). Will Faison was 5-for-6 for 118 yards and three touchdowns, Qusarn Caldwell carried five times for 98 yards and a score and Ben Odugbesan had a rushing touchdown and returned a blocked punt 35 yards for a touchdown. Bradley Atkins had two sacks and Patrick Laroque and Dennis Melendez each had a sack.
Long Beach 39, Great Neck South 8: Chris Parler returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown and had a 76-yard TD reception to lead Long Beach (1-1) over Great Neck South (0-2). Tom Rowley was 4-for-12 for 90 yards and two touchdowns and had eight carries for 60 yards and a touchdown for the Marines. Matt Firpo's 12-yard touchdown reception capped a seven play 77-yard drive for Long Beach in the third quarter. Long Beach held Great Neck South to 88 yards.
New Hyde Park 30, Westbury 7: Nick Dziomba rushed 16 times for 141 yards and Fran Terrero had 57 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries to lead New Hyde Park (2-0). Kevin Terrero had nine tackles and a sack. Brandon Percival was 4-for-9 for 93 yards for Westbury (0-2).
