High school football report: Friday's games

Jake Gambitsky intercepted a two-point conversion pass late in the fourth quarter to seal Wantagh's 13-12 win at Elmont in the completion of a Nassau Conference II football game Friday afternoon. Nick Mullen connected with Michael Games on a 65-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to give Wantagh (2-0) a 7-6 lead. The Warriors increased their lead to 13-6 on John Ingrilli's 63-yard interception return for a touchdown. Kevin Johnson scored on a 16-yard pass from Qusarn Caldwell for Elmont, but the conversion failed. Jaquan Smith returned the opening kickoff 90 yards on Thursday.
Garden City 42, Calhoun 7: Brian Fischer carried seven times for 110 yards and a touchdown and returned an interception 73 yards for a touchdown for Garden City (2-0). Fischer's 84-yard touchdown came on the second play after the game was resumed Friday to boost the Trojans' lead to 28-0. Stephen Jahelka had seven carries for 39 yards and two TDs. Calhoun is 1-1.
Carey 34, Roslyn 0: Kyle Zahradka was 5-for-6 passing for 100 yards and two touchdowns for Carey (2-0) on Thursday night. One of the touchdown passes came on Carey's first offensive play, a 28-yard strike to Jake Robison. The ensuing kickoff was fumbled and Chris Theodorou returned it five yards for a touchdown. Steven Marino had a 29-yard touchdown reception and was 5-for-6 on extra points. Roslyn is 0-2.
Bellmore JFK 25, Westbury 6: Joe Karo rushed for 165 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries for Bellmore JFK (1-1). Will Colon made field goals of 30 and 35 yards. Brandon Kaminsky led the team with 16 tackles. Westbury is 1-1.
Freeport 34, Hicksville 14: Isaiah Barnes was 5-for-13 passing for 185 yards and a touchdown, and rushed 10 times for 56 yards and two touchdowns for Freeport (2-0) in Conference I on Thursday. Dan Olivier had 13 rushes for 121 yards and two scores. Jeff Williams ran 44 yards for the touchdown on the first play from scrimmage to give Freeport an early 6-0 lead. Olivier had seven sacks to pace the defense. Brandon Gamblin threw for a 67-yard touchdown and ran for a 64-yard score for Hicksville (1-1). Baldwin 42, Herricks 7: Quarterback Patrick Dillon ran for 101 yards and a touchdown, and made an interception to lead Baldwin (1-1). Chris Mertens ran for 17 yards and two touchdowns and Tyler Harper had a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown and took a kickoff back 80 yards for another score. Middle linebacker Mike Abrahams made a team-high eight tackles. Herricks is 0-2.
Massapequa 31, Hempstead 22: Michael Barry rushed for 167 yards and four touchdowns to lead Massapequa (1-1). Barry's 36-yard third-quarter touchdown gave the Chiefs an 18-8 advantage, and they never trailed again. Each of Barry's touchdown runs were of 25-plus yards (30, 36, 27 and 26). Vasili Grigorakos ran 90 yards down the left side line on a kickoff return for a touchdown near the end of the third quarter to make it 24-16. Malik Howard rushed for two touchdowns for Hempstead (0-2).
South Side 21, Valley Stream South 18:Zach Scaduto capped an 11-play, 65-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown with 37 seconds left in the fourth quarter for South Side (1-1) in Conference III on Thursday night. Frank Accardi's 51-yard run gave Valley Stream South (0-2) an 18-13 lead.
Scaduto finished with five carries for 55 yards and one touchdown, and two receptions for 13 yards and a score. He also made 11 tackles. Eric Willie added 110 yards on 14 carries, and James Howard was 4-for-9 passing for 35 yards and a touchdown and had four carries for 18 yards and a score.
Division 7, Carle Place/Wheatley 6: Quarterback Dylan Muller scored a 3-run touchdown with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter for Division (1-1), and a David Torres extra point made it 7-6. Muller rushed for 77 yards, and Sean Anglim ran for 81 yards. Inside linebacker Rob McNamara made eight tackles. Carle Place/Wheatley is 1-1.
Lynbrook 42, Plainedge 21: Paul Magloire scored on a 59-yard touchdown run on the second play of the third quarter to give Lynbrook (2-0) a 42-7 lead in a completion of a game on Friday. Mike Kozlakowski rushed four 73 yards and two touchdowns on four carries, and ran for a pair of two-point conversions. He also returned a fumble 45 yards for a touchdown. Travis Lock ran for 126 yards and a score on eight carries. Connor Daly made 12 tackles. Ralph Caccavale ran for a touchdown and threw for one for Plainedge (1-1). Bethpage 40, Glen Cove 12: Paul Bitetti rushed for 60 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries for Bethpage (1-1). Bethpage used 11 backs on offense, totaling 362 rushing yards. After Bethpage took a 7-6 lead on Justin Rohr's 2-yard scoring run, Bitetti ran for three consecutive touchdowns to give Bethpage a 28-6 lead. Rohr was 5-for-7 passing for 65 yards, and ran nine times for 47 yards and a touchdown. Marko Skarica had two sacks. Pietro Lafortezza rushed for a touchdown and threw for another for Glen Cove (1-1).Clarke 10, Mineola 7: Joe Brillantino's 35-yard field with 7:47 left in the third quarter gave Clarke (1-1) a 10-0 lead in the completion of a Conference IV game on Friday. Mike Quintella ran for 56 yards and a touchdown for Clarke.
Outside linebacker Brandon Abbott had two sacks and an interception to lead the Clarke defense, which stopped Mineola on four downs from the 2 with 7:31 left in the fourth quarter. Abbott also ran for a team-high 61 yards. Brian Gaffney caught a 62-yard pass from Rob Clarkin for Mineola (1-1) in the third quarter to make it 10-7.
Cold Spring Harbor 21, Malverne 6: Chris Moriarty scored on a 26-yard interception return with 1:18 left in the first half to give Cold Spring Harbor (2-0) a 7-0 lead on Thursday night. Kevin Porzelt rushed for 57 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Cory Alexander rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries for Malverne (0-2).
West Babylon 9, Smithtown West 6: Dan Apuzzo tackled a Smithtown West ballcarrier in the end zone on second down from inside the 5-yard line for a safety with 7:51 left in the fourth quarter to give West Babylon (1-1) a 9-6 lead in Division II. Apuzzo, a defensive tackle, led the defense with eight solo tackles, including three for a loss. Reggie Robinson, who finished with 52 yards on 18 carries, scored on a 25-yard run in the second quarter. A John Schelfo extra point made it 7-0. Anthony Gatto caught a 64-yard from Kyle Keenan to pull Smithtown West (1-1) within one at 7-6. The Bulls had one more possession after the safety but turned the ball over on downs. Comsewogue 39, Half Hollow Hills East 0: Vincenzo Masone rushed 25 times for 111 yards and three touchdowns, and Matt Scalera had 15 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns for Comsewogue (1-1). The defense held Hills East (0-2) to just 32 yards of total offense.
Floyd 40, Northport 12:Stacey Bedell rushed for 243 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries and added a two-point conversion for Floyd (2-0) in Division I. Luke Miller added 121 yards and two scores on 13 carries. A.J. Otranto was 4-for-6 passing for 100 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Ronny Brumsey recovered two fumbles and Rajiv Heron made nine tackles, including three sacks. Jesse Ferraro rushed for a touchdown for Northport (0-2).
Longwood 28, Central Islip 6: Devante Booker rushed 20 times for 194 yards and three touchdowns, and Jeremy Morgan was 4-for-4 on extra points for Longwood (1-1). Anthony Marone sent his only pass of the game for an 86-yard touchdown with 1:20 left in the second quarter to give Longwood a 21-0 lead at halftime. Eric Lee had 9 1/2 tackles and an interception.Central Islip is 1-1.
Patchogue-Medford 31, Sachem East 7: Joe Altrui rushed for 185 yards on 24 attempts and three TDs for Patchogue-Medford (1-1). Alistair Streat rushed for 77 yards on five carries and Sal Palumbo had eight carries for 58 yards with a TD. Dominick Fucci had three sacks. Sachem East is 0-2.Sachem North 34, Lindenhurst 15: Jesse Scanna had 11 carries for 86 yards and three touchdowns to lead Sachem North (2-0). Tyler Andreassi led the defense with three sacks and Scanna made 12 tackles and had a fumble recovery. Mike McCarthy recovered a Sachem North fumble in the end zone with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Lindenhurst is 1-1.Glenn 33, Babylon 28: Quarterback Ryan Reilly scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 38 seconds remaining to cap a 90-yard drive and give Glenn (2-0) a 33-28 lead in Conference IV. Reilly finished with 36 carries for 240 yards and four touchdowns, and was 10-for-16 passing for 101 yards and one score. Babylon is 1-1.
