Hunt's 3 TDs lead Christ the King over SJB
St. John the Baptist football coach Keith Schweers knew his team would have a tough time containing Christ the King quarterback Terell Hunt.
Hunt, a Division-I recruit, lived up to the hype as he scored three touchdowns, including a fourth-quarter, 100-yard interception return for host Christ the King in a 38-20 win over St. John the Baptist in a CHSAA football game yesterday.
St. John the Baptist (1-1) got a strong performance from Derelle Hunter with 198 yards rushing on 18 carries and Austin Kraft, who threw for 89 yards and two touchdowns.
The final score didn't tell the entire story.
The Cougars held a 20-19 lead late in the third. But Hunt, who had already scored on a 19-yard run in the first quarter, added a 22-yard scamper for a touchdown on the last play of the third quarter to give Christ the King a 25-20 lead.
"We knew he would be the focal point," Schweers said. "He's a great athlete and it was tough stopping him."
St. John the Baptist had its chances in the game. The Cougars had the ball inside the 10 twice in the fourth quarter and failed to score.
Hunt put the game away on the Cougars' second possession inside the 10 as he picked off a pass in the end zone and dashed 100 yards for the TD to provide the final margin. "We were in position to make plays and finish, but we couldn't," Schweers said. "But we have a young team and there is time to come back."
