Of the 27 Nassau County football games played over five days this week, only three were considered upsets based on the coaches' preseason seeding. All three were No. 12 seeds beating No. 11 seeds.

In Conference II, Westbury buried Roslyn 34-6. In Conference III, Carle Place/Wheatley took out Great Neck North 28-12. And in Conference IV, Mineola held on for a 30-23 win over Valley Stream North.

Hempstead nearly completed the No. 12 over 11 upset sweep, but dropped a 20-12 decision at home to Hicksville on Wednesday. Hicksville will play host to Freeport on Thursday, and the Red Devils kick off the Week 1 rankings as our No. 1 team in Nassau. (See, it all comes full circle).

*No Nassau football teams are in this week's version of the Big 10 by Gregg Sarra. Garden City is one of the teams "on the outside looking in."
